The City of Midlothian has joined forces with the City of Fort Worth Environmental Collection Center (ECC) located at 6400 Bridge Street in Fort Worth to provide for safe disposal of household chemical waste. The ECC is open to residents of Midlothian on Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. A voucher is required for disposal and may be purchased at the Utility Billing office at City Hall. The mobile Cruiser travels to our Public Works Service Center once a year to collect leftover household chemicals. Check with Public Works at 972-775-1083 or visit our website event calendar to find out when the Crud Cruiser will be in Midlothian. In order to participate in this program, residents must purchase a voucher from the City of Midlothian Utility Billing office. Residents living inside the city limits will be charged $20.00, anyone outside of the city limits will be required to pay a $50.00 fee. The first 100 residents living inside the city limits will be charged $20.00, after that the fee will be $47.00. Anyone outside of the city limits will be required to pay the $47.00 fee.

Recyclables are to be collected in clear recycle plastic bags and placed within a receptacle that can be obtained from Waste Connections. Any additional clear bags of recyclables may be placed alongside the receptacle. Recyclables are collected every Wednesday and are to be placed curbside by 7:00 A.M.
• Seal cracks and holes in outside walls and foundations near water pipes with caulking. It's especially important to keep cold wind away from pipes, which speeds up the freezing process.
• Keep cabinet doors open during cold spells to allow warm air to circulate around pipes (particularly in the kitchen and bathroom).
• Keep a slow trickle of water flowing through faucets connected to pipes that run through an unheated or unprotected space. Ice might still form in the pipes, but an open faucet allows water to escape before the pressure builds to where a pipe can burst. If the dripping stops, it may mean that ice is blocking the pipe; keep the faucet open, since the pipe still needs pressure relief. Or drain the water system, especially if your house will be unattended during cold periods.
• Pipes in attics and crawl spaces should be protected with insulation or heat. Pipe insulation is available in fiberglass or foam sleeves. Home centers and hardware stores have sleeves providing 1/8 to 5/8 inches of insulation; specialty dealers have products that provide up to 2 inches of insulation. The extra thickness is worth the price and can save a pipe that would freeze with less insulation.
• Heating cables and tapes are effective in freeze protection. Select a heating cable with the UL label and a built-in thermostat that turns the heat on when needed (without a thermostat, the cable has to be plugged in each time and might be forgotten). Follow the manufacturer's instructions closely.
If You Suspect a Frozen Pipe:
If you open a faucet and no water comes out, don't take any chances. Call a plumber. If a water pipe bursts, turn off the water at the main shut-off valve (usually at the water meter or where the main line enters the house); leave the faucet(s) open until repairs are completed. Don't try to thaw a frozen pipe with an open flame; as this will damage the pipe and may even start a building fire. You might be able to thaw a pipe with a hand-held hair dryer. Slowly apply heat, starting close to the faucet end of the pipe, with the faucet open. Work toward the coldest section. Don't use electrical appliances while standing in water; you could get electrocuted.
Sprinkler Systems:Drain the water from the pipes and then turn your automatic sprinkler system off. This will prevent your pipes from bursting and also prevent ice accumulation on sidewalks, driveways and roadways

The Community Services Department oversees general code enforcement violations such as:

Request the complaint in writing by filling out a Request for Investigation form or call (972) 775-7168.
After a complaint has been received, the case is logged and then assigned for investigation.
The assigned inspector conducts an inspection and researches the property. If a violation is confirmed, the property owner is advised in writing about the violation and the violation is posted on the City’s website. The violation letter states what action must be taken to correct the problem and a date is given by which compliance must be achieved. The inspector will work with property owners who request assistance in resolving a violation. An extension of time may be granted to property owners who promise to resolve the violation within an acceptable time frame.
The inspector re-inspects the property after the compliance date. If a violation still exists, citations or legal action may be initiated. Fines may be issued in an amount of not less than five dollars, but not more than two-thousand dollars for each day that a property is in violation beyond the compliance date.
• Inspectors must personally visit each reported property and conduct necessary research.
• Property owners must be located and legally notified.
• Adequate time to comply must be given to property owners extensions of time may be required.
• Administrative actions may be pending a request for a variance hearing or a trial.
• A citation is issued to the property owner and they have asked to stand trial on the citation. All zoning enforcement actions cease until the property owner goes to court and a judge issues a decision.
• A violation may not exist.
