2020 General Election and Special Election Postponed to November 3, 2020

On March 24, 2020, the City Council unanimously approved Resolution 2020-12 postponing the General and Special Elections originally set for May 2, 2020 to November 3, 2020. Important dates are now as follows: (1) Early Voting will be conducted from October 13 to October 30, 2020, (2) the last day to register to vote for this election will be October 5, 2020, and (3) the deadline to submit an application for ballot by mail will be October 23, 2020.  

On August 11, 2020, City Council approved Resolution 2020-27 officially ordering the General and Special Elections for November 3, 2020 and the Notice of Election was posted.

Candidates, please be aware of the Important Dates for the November 3rd Election.

Runoff Election

A runoff election will be held on December 8, 2020 for City Council Place 6 at the Midlothian Conference Center, 1 Community Circle.  The candidates will be Hud Hartson and Tiffany Robinson Carra.  Early Voting at the Midlothian Conference Center will be from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm on November 23-25 and November 30-December 2 and from 7:00 am - 7:00 pm on December 3 & 4 with no voting on holidays or weekends.

The Notice of Drawing for Place on Ballot was posted February 18, 2020 with the drawing to take place on Friday, February 21, 2020 at 10am in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 104 W. Avenue E.  As a result of the drawing, the ballot order will be Wayne Sibley listed first followed by Dustin Slayton second.

The Notice of Drawing for Place on Ballot for the Special Election was posted February 27, 2020 with the drawing to take place on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at 10am in the office of the City Secretary at City Hall, 104 W. Avenue E.  As a result of the drawing, the ballot order will be as listed above.   

May 2, 2020 Election Information

A General Election will be held on May 2, 2020 to elect a Mayor and Councilmembers Place 1 and 2 along with a Special Election to elect Councilmember Place 6. The City contracts with Ellis County Elections and voters will be able to cast their ballot at any vote center location within the County.  The Midlothian Conference Center, 1 Community Circle, Midlothian, TX is an Early Voting and Election Day vote center location.  The General Election was ordered on January 28, 2020 by Resolution 2020-02 and the Notice of Election was posted.  The Special Election was ordered on February 21, 2020 by Resolution 2020-04 and the Notice of General and Special Election was posted.

The candidate filing period for a place on the General Election ballot will be January 15, 2020 to February 14, 2020 with a declaration of write in candidacy through February 18, 2020.
