5. What is the ETJ?: ETJ stands for Extra-territorial Jurisdiction, which is the unincorporated jurisdiction of Midlothian. Midlothian’s ETJ extends one mile out from the city limits.

6. What regulations apply within the ETJ?: The City of Midlothian’s subdivision regulations apply within the ETJ, but not the city’s zoning regulations.

7. When will my piece of property be annexed into the city?: The City of Midlothian has annexed property within the ETJ in the past using both the immediate and three-year annexation process. Immediate annexations involve large tracts of land that contain fewer then one-hundred dwelling units. Three-year annexations involve established neighborhoods with over one-hundred dwelling units. The annexation of a specific area is at the discretion of the City Council.
